EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Engineering Manager-Mechanical Design

GAM Enterprises manufactures precision mechanical products used in the robotics and motion control industry. We have an opportunity for an Engineering Manager to lead our mechanical design and development department. The manager will be expected to not only lead and manage the department activities, but also partake in the design and development aspect.

The position reports directly to the President of the company and is based at our Mount Prospect, IL headquarters.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to:

  • Lead, manage, and oversee our mechanical design department of four engineers for impactful results while maximizing employee satisfaction.
  • Establish and implement new processes, procedures, and standards that will help us achieve our everincreasing standards of professionalism.
  • Develop and mentor the other engineers so they may grow in their knowledge and career path.
  • Create new product designs and develop new product lines.
  • Modify existing product designs and design components that will meet customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with customers to develop unique product designs for new applications, investigate and analyze problems, determine changes, make corrections, and set requirements.
  • Perform engineering analysis on customer returns and field engineering support and assistance.
  • Create/modify engineering documentation such as: assembly instructions, BOMs, process documents, testing/root cause analysis reports, and ECRs.
  • Edit technical product content in marketing and sales materials (technical aides, website, databases and application materials).
  • Provide technical support to GAM teammates in sales and customer service roles. Communicate directly with customers in special circumstances where technical expertise is needed.
  • Guide GAM in its efforts to implement gear manufacturing in-house.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 10-15 years of experience in a mechanical engineering design capacity, including the design of mechanical assemblies.
  • 5 years of experience in supervisory role with a proven track record of impactful results.
  • BSE or MSE in Mechanical Engineering or General Engineering. Other disciplines will not be considered as this position requires the technical and specific knowledge obtained by an ME or GE.
  • Knowledge and experience in designing gears.
  • Experienced in the design of gearboxes, or drivetrain assemblies.  Knowledge and experience in metal gear manufacturing.
  • Experience with component selection, sizing, and ratings.
  • Experience with AGMA, ANSI, and GD&T standards.
  • Advanced practical and applied CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, particularly CNC machinery.
  • Preferred but not required experience with servo gearboxes; creating, modifying, and editing databases in MS-Access, or SQL; experience with FEA; experience with PDM.

  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines (multitask).
  • Can work well in a team environment.
  • Creative problem solver, who is calm under pressure, organized, and able to adapt to changes in priorities.
